Requirements

Admission criteria for equestrian courses can vary depending on the institution and the specific program. However, here are some common requirements .

  1. Experience with Horses: Many equestrian programs expect applicants to have some prior experience with horses, such as riding lessons or hands-on work with horses in a stable environment.
  2. Skill Level: Some programs may require applicants to demonstrate a certain level of riding skill or competency. This could involve a riding test or submission of a riding portfolio.
  3. Educational Background: While not always mandatory, some programs may prefer applicants with a background in areas such as animal science, veterinary science, or equine studies.
  4. Physical Fitness: Working with horses can be physically demanding, so some programs may assess applicants’ physical fitness or require a medical clearance.
  5. References or Recommendations: You may need to provide references or letters of recommendation from individuals who can speak to your suitability for the program, especially if you’re applying to a competitive program.
  6. Interview: In some cases, applicants may be required to attend an interview where they can discuss their interest in equestrian studies and demonstrate their knowledge and commitment.
  7. Academic Requirements: Depending on the program, there may be academic prerequisites, such as a minimum GPA or specific courses completed (especially for undergraduate or graduate programs related to equestrian studies).
  8. Additional Requirements: Programs may have additional requirements, such as a personal statement outlining your interest in equestrian studies, a portfolio showcasing your work with horses, or specific certifications (e.g., first aid training).

It’s essential to check the specific requirements of each program you’re interested in, as they can vary widely. Some programs may also offer beginner-level courses that do not require extensive prior experience with horses. If you’re unsure about any requirements, reaching out to the admissions office or program coordinator for clarification is always a good idea.

Our stables:

Barn design: The barns stables have been designed according to a research study done by

Raymond Lund in conjunction

with the research facility at Onderstepoort. Our barns offer roomy stables with large windows and

good ventilation.

Horses are able to see each other and vet-checks are made easy by our open door system in

which we can view the entire horse when walking past. Our tile roof keeps the barn cool and quiet

during rain storms. Access to electricity points and good lighting, makes show preparation during

early mornings or late nights very convenient. We have several fire exits, fire extinguishers and

water point in the barns.

The Equine Walker

The Equine Walker helps to keep our horses muscled up and fit. We have drainage points and

rubber footing (raked every day), to allow our horses to walk daily. This has improved the top line,

muscle mass and overall fitness of our horses tremendously.
